Beginning in January 2026, we are honored to officially assume our roles as Editors-in-Chief of the Italian Journal of Medicine (ITJM), the official scientific voice of FADOI (Federation of Associations of Hospital Internist Managers). We step into this role succeeding Michele Meschi, whose leadership has been marked by both dedication and distinction.

ITJM remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing the culture of internal medicine, specifically focusing on the intricate management of the complex hospital patient. Our primary mission is to deliver high-quality scientific content that bridges the gap between rigorous academic research and the pragmatic, daily operational needs of ward physicians. As a truly "transversal" medical journal, ITJM spans a broad clinical spectrum that encompasses cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, pulmonology, infectious diseases, clinical hematology and oncology, gastroenterology, and the multifaceted challenges of geriatrics and chronic multimorbidity management. Furthermore, we remain committed to exploring the essential fields of healthcare organization and clinical risk management.

By publishing a diverse range of peer-reviewed contributions—including Original Articles, Review Articles, Editorials, Position Papers, and Clinical Guidelines—and adhering to an open access model, we ensure that our insights reach far beyond the FADOI membership to the global scientific community. This openness fosters a vital, widespread exchange of knowledge across international borders.

As we look to the future, we recognize the need for evolution. Thus, we will introduce strategic updates during our first year of editorship to further enhance the journal’s impact. This includes empowering a streamlined group of Associate Editors to take a more active role in the editorial process and implementing stricter methodological rigor to ensure the highest standards of evidence-based medicine. We are introducing a new series dedicated to methodology and statistics, driven by our strong belief in the importance of providing younger readers with the essential tools to critically read, interpret, and understand scientific literature. We also intend to introduce new publication formats that better reflect the rapidly evolving landscape of medical literature. While the rapid evolution of digital communication makes it difficult to predict exactly how the Journal will look in several years, we view this uncertainty as an exciting journey toward modernization and excellence. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Michele Meschi for his outstanding leadership, and on behalf of the scientific community and our readership, we thank the Associate Editors and the editorial staff for their tireless support. We are firmly committed to enhancing ITJM’s standing within the international academic community, ensuring that the journal remains a premier destination for internists worldwide.
